Licensure in the Commonwealth of PA is the now law for Prosthetist, Orthotist, Pedortist, and Orthotic Fitters. The Medical Board will write the rules and regulations associated with the law.  Once they are written and approved these classes of individuals will be able to apply for the required license to practice in PA.  The classification of Certified Shoe Fitter was not included in the practice act. Shoe Fitters with appropriate education and experience can pursue a Pedorthic or Orthotic Fitter certification in order to obtain a PA license.  Please be in contact with your respective trade groups to see what the effect this new law has on you.  The Pennsylvania Orthotic and Prosthetic Society (POPS) has been involved with the passage of this law and is a good source of information. Their enrollment is open.  Their web site is pops.bz.    We have also posted House Bill 48 on our website for your information.
